I was planing to start with BS7799, ITIL and ISO17799 for I believe it to be quite interesting. Of course I would be very glad of hearing other suggestions.
Meanwhile standards have changed a lot. I personally have concentrated on standards in IT Service Management. These standards often are in need of guidance while beeing implemented or operated. And that is even more the case when important persons were not involved in enabling these processes: employees.
Of course standards also have changed in the past months and years since i started. Today we do have a ISO20000 and are moving towards a serives of ISO27k standards beginning with ISO27001. Next to this it focussed standards one is involved into things like Risk Management, best practices like PMBOK from PMI and technical or corporate issues that all want to be considered.
